A Reflection From the Principal's Desk
Spring is finally here! It is hard to believe that we have only a few months left in the 2023-2024 school year. I would like to take a moment to thank everyone for their hard work this year! You are all essential to the success of our students. April is a busy yet short month with students on spring break from April 22nd - April 30th. Whether you are off for spring break or not, I hope that all of you have the opportunity to reflect, refresh and rejuvenate yourselves with family and friends.
I would like to send a special shout out to all of the families that participated in our first annual Family Math Night, Are You Smarter Than a Middle Schooler, held on March 13th. It was a great success due to the dedication and hard work of our Math teachers as well as the participation of our amazing students and their families. I hope you had as much fun as I did! If you were unable to attend, please join us for our next Family Night, 181’s Poetry Jam, held on April 17th. Students will be performing their poetry accompanied by musical and dance performances.
Additionally, we will begin this month wearing blue on April 5th for Autism Awareness. There will be no school for students on April 10th due to the Islamic holiday of Eid al fitr. Our Grade 6 and 7 students will be venturing into the first state assessment cycle on April 11th and 12th when the NYS ELA exam is being administered. Grade 8 students will be administered the NYS ELA on April 16th and April 17th. On the days that your child is testing, make certain that your son/daughter rests properly each night, arrives for school on time, and is not distracted at home. Students test in the morning and are expected to report to school by 8:00 am. Students are expected to bring (2) sharpened, number two pencils. All personal devices must be put away in yonder pouches and placed away in students bookbags.
Lastly, I want to wish all our Pablo Casals Middle School 181 Families a wonderful and safe Eid and Passover Holiday!
Sincerely,
Jennifer Kirrane
